McAtamney’s has a long, robust history in the butchery business dating back to 1933 when the first shop was established in Kilrea. From these humble beginnings over eighty years ago, McAtamney’s has made a name for itself by providing customers with the highest quality produce, traditional values and excellence in customer care. Father and son team, Oran and Declan McAtamney are at the forefront of the business and work closely with their dynamic team each day.

A family run business to this day with the head office based in Garvagh, McAtamney’s has grown one shop at a time taking pride in growing the business at a pace that never compromises on quality or service. There are now twelve shops across Northern Ireland employing over one hundred fully trained master butchers. The team is led by father and son team, Oran and Declan McAtamney.

Quality is at the heart of everything we do… quality produce, quality customer service and quality shops. We take time to choose only the highest quality meat for our customers. Our chefs source the finest ingredients for our extensive range of ready meals prepared in our Gourmet Kitchen.

Our success is driven by our people and their commitment to delivering the butchery trade with excellence. We are good at what we do and are consistently judged to have excellent products, customer service and friendly helpful staff. This has been reflected in the awards we have won which includes Butchers Shop of the Year 2016 and 2017, Butchers of the Year 2013 and Belfast Telegraph Business Award for most progressive and compelling retail outlet. Our food is great too, with Great Taste Awards for our steak pie and Sirloin steak.
Most recently, in 2021 the Magherafelt proudly won the Butcher’s Display of the Year Accolade, while Ballymena was a finalist for Butcher’s Shop of the Year.

We don’t intend to stand still: we will continue to develop and grow at a pace that is right, whilst retaining our ethos of quality in every aspect of our business.

Dry Age Meats

Select your favourite cut from the dry-aged cabinet, locally sourced meat that is aged to perfection for a minimum of 28 days. This unique process produces succulent meat that is full of flavour. Dry aged meats are available

Bishops Gate Hotel & Bar

At Bishop’s Gate Hotel Derry we have been working with McAtamney’s Traditional Butcher’s since our hotel opened in 2016. Their produce has always been excellent quality and great value, most of all the customer feedback has been extremely positive. Each year, since our hotel opened, we have been named in the Top 10 UK Hotels on TripAdvisor, this is calculated based on the positive guest reviews of their dining & hotel experience which is in part thanks to the high quality of produce supplied by our associates. We have also been awarded an AA Rosette for the quality of food produce served in our Restaurant
